Atavi Prasadharaka (Indian Tribesmen) Warriors recruited from the various jungle tribes living in the wild forests and hills who join the army with their chief with the intent of plunder and loot and thus are unreliable troops. These swordsmen are fearsome warriors, wielding the Aruvaazh (or Sickle-Sword) while a few others bring a battle axe. Kandachhednadhara Sainka (Mauryan Axemen) These axe-bearers are not guards, but regular soldiers. They wield long two-handed iron axes with wooden or bamboo handles. Not only their mace can pierce through heavy armour, but it can easily break apart chariots and slaughter elephants, if it is provided with enough support. Asvasainaka (Mauryan Cavalry) These troops are the most reliable cavalry forces of the Mauryan army. Most are unarmoured but somewhat experienced soldiers, equipped with a few javelins and a spear along with a shield for close combat. Kamboja Ashvakas (Kambojan Horsemen) Kambojas generally practiced agriculture, cattle-rearing, and trade but they are trained horsemen. In times of war, they are ready to take up arms and join the imperial army. They fight as light cavalry, harrying with a few javelins before charging in with their broad-bladed spear. Gandhara Ashvakas (Gandharan Heavy Cavalry) The Gandharans are famous for their horses as well as the cavalrymen who ride them. These heavy cavalrymen come from the Gandharan elites, equipping themselves with a good helmet and a lamellar or a scale cuirass along with elaborate face masks depicting various deities.
