Mebdie Hostate (Lusitani Light Spearmen) These troops are the semi-professional line infantry of the Lusotannan. They are relatively well-off, owning farmland and cattle, taking part in occasional mercenary service to pay for their equipment. They are equipped with light armour made of leather combined with a small bronze breastplate, a galea leather helmet and a rather large shield. Their armament includes a bundle of javelins and a sturdy spear.

Scortamareva (Lusitani Medium Spearmen) Scortamareva (Skor-tam-ar-eev-ah; Long-Shield Carriers) are some of the most well-equipped and heavily armed warriors the Lusotannan can muster. They are a fierce, well-drilled and well-equipped force, making them great medium infantry. They are armed with a well-made Iberian steel shortsword, a bronze breastplate, greaves, a bronze Montefortino helmet, and well-made javelins and spear.

Dovideri (Lusitani Armoured Spearmen) The armour of these skilled men is better than their mostly lower class counterparts, as they can afford scale armour and bronze greaves. They also carry the famous Gladius Hispaniensis, a bunch of Soliferra javelins, the caetra shield, and a strong thrusting spear, making them excellent anti-infantry soldiers.

Gestikapoinann (Lusitani Veteran Spearmen) Among the bravest and most skilled warriors, these veterans assume a more permanent warrior role near their chieftains. Used to taking advantage of the spoils of war that more professional fighters are able to enjoy, these men are therefore better equipped than the lighter Caetrati, with a breastplate and leather armour supplementing their bascinet-type bronze helm.

Arti (Lusitani Bear Warriors) These elite warriors are bound together by sacred rituals, marked by the adoption of the bear as their totem animal. Clad in bear skins and light armor, wielding terrifying doubleheaded and two-handed axes that can cleave through armor, flesh, and bone, their roaring charge will terrify their enemies.

Vaeirione (Lusitani Medium Swordsmen) Vaeirione are the Lusitanian variant of the typical Caetrati found in all Iberian armies, and no less fierce than their Iberian brethren. They wear light quilted linen armour over tunics and thick cloaks, which also give a degree of protection. They wear a tough sinew and leather helmet called a galea and carry a bundle of javelins to throw before the melee. Their javelins make them ideal skirmishers, and their earth-toned clothing allows them to excel at ambushes.

Callaecae Roscaithera (Gallaeci Heavy Spear-Skirmishers) Proud, skilled, and in peak physical condition, these elite skirmishers wear helmets and medium armor without being slowed down. They hurl their full-metal heavy javelins with tremendous force and carry spear and shield to provide decent melee support once their missiles are expended.

Catuni (Lusitani Heavy Infantry) In times of peace, these men practice a kind of armed dance, similar to those practised in Britannia, which require a great deal of dexterity to do properly, effectively training them for combat. In war they march at an even step, and then raise a battle-song as they charge on their foe.

Bouti (Lusitani Slingers) With the abandonment of the bow by the end of the Bronze Age, the sling is the only long-ranged missile weapon to be found in 3rd century Iberia. It has always been the weapon of choice of the shepherd, who relies on its range and accuracy to keep predators such as wolves and lynxes from threatening his valuable flock.

Cateramuniti (Lusitani Levy Skirmishers) The Cateramuniti are the most common skirmishers in any Lusitanian force. Used to harass and antagonise the enemy with showers of iron-tipped javelins, they weave to and fro, avoiding direct hand-to-hand combat whenever possible. These warbands are the lightest and among the most ‘annoying’ harassment troops in Iberia. They cause many casualties, before retreating back into the night or hills, and attacking again the following day.

Ibaranta (Lusitani Ambushers) Equipped with daggers, small spears or javelins, and round wooden shields, these ambushers are accustomed to mountain warfare, and well-trained and equipped for rapid assaults over craggy and broken ground. They lead a simple life, sleeping on the ground and letting their hair stream down in thick masses in the manner of women.

Epones Aeiste (Lusitani Light Missile Cavalry) With thundering hooves, a hail of iron-tipped javelins, these warriors appear and then are gone, only to reappear from another quarter. Again and again these cavalrymen harry the enemy until their foes, fearful and demoralised, break formation, whereupon the they strike home with their sharp swords, riding down their enemies without mercy.

Epones Pretre (Lusitani Medium Shock Cavalry) Strabo reports that the Lusitanians are given to laying ambush, given to spying out, are quick, nimble, and good at deploying troops.” These warriors conform to that tradition, using the agility and speed of their horses for quick hit-and-run attacks using their spears for shock effect. They are courageous and very competent, but should avoid spear-armed infantry at all costs.”

Arjos Epones Aeiste (Lusitani Heavy Missile Cavalry) These noble cavalrymen are among the best-equipped fighters in their tribe. They can afford the protection of scale or chainmail armor and many wear elaborate helmets, which can include the distinctive bucula (face mask). They circle relentlessly, hurling their javelins with great force, weakening their enemy before charging in with their excellent swords, which Strabo reports can cut through every thing in their way, that neither shield, helmet, nor bone can withstand them.”

Ambakaro Epones Pretre (Lusitani Heavy Shock Cavalry) These cavalrymen, noble retainers of their lord, have proven themselves in battle and have been rewarded with lands and silver to buy and tend their mounts. They can afford excellent armor and the finest weapons, which enables them to press home their charges against all but the most determined adversaries. Many adorn their helmets with distinctive decorations, including the distinctive bucula (face mask).
