Koroi (Eastern Germanic Spear Levy (Early)) This unit normally includes a large number of spear-armed men, drafted every year from each district to serve as the common levy. They are friends, brothers, sons, fathers, nephews, and uncles: all bound by the ties of community and kinship. Many wear thick coats or furs for protection, and each man is equipped with a large oval shield made of planked wood.

Hariz Skaduganganz (Harii Night Walkers) The Hariz Skaduganganz (those who go in shadows) are unconventional spear warriors who specialize in ambushes. They choose pitch-black nights, thick forests, or murky swamps for their battles and strike fear into the hearts of their enemies with the terrifying, shadow-like appearance of an army of the dead.

Koisi Toutaginoi (Eastern Germanic Bodyguard Spearmen) These guards are an elite formation composed of ‘picked men,’ recruited by war chiefs, who in turn are retained by district chieftains in order to bolster their levies. Overall, the trends in the development of armaments, reflected by the Toutaginos unit, as with the evolution of the battle tactics in general, are of course based on the progressive proliferation of iron.

Helveconez Klumbokarlaz (Helvecones Clubmen) These young tribesmen might have limited experience of raids or small skirmishes, but are eager to prove themselves in battle. Their clubs are crude and cheap, but should not be understimated against armored foes.

Manirni Klumbokarlaz (Manirni Clubmen) The warriors in this unit are not necessarily poor, but rather choose to fight with the club instead of the spear. Most are armed with a wooden club, but some prefer an axe of the socketed variety. For protection, these warriors only use a lightweight wooden shield. Some have a reinforced metal shield rim protection, but most do not.

Naharvali Sahsnotoz (Naharvali Axemen) These warriors are armed with axes for cleaving through armor, and protected by sturdy shields and some light armor to serve as frontline or flanking troops.

Hariz Nokwlentoi (Harii Night Strikers) Defeat in battle always starts with the eyes. The Harii are masters of psychological warfare, using stealth, trickery, and terror to defeat otherwise superior opponents. And clubs. Lots of clubs.

Warowinoi (Eastern Germanic Medium Swordsmen (Early)) This unit is comprised of a small number of well-armed men bound to war and the leaders of great renown that command them. The Warowinoi wear the common garb; leather shoes, belt, a drab wool shirt and trousers. For protection they use a a variety of leather armor and a large leather-covered oval or subrectangular planked-wood shield. A few might sport a thick leather skull cap, whilst most are proud to cover their heads with nothing but too-long wildly unkempt hair.

Helisiz Sahsnotoz (Helisi Assault Infantry) These veteran freemen are steadfast and aggressive, equipped with light armor and good shields to serve in the frontline. Most are armed with clubs or axes to bash through armor, but some have swords – rewards from their chieftain, or taken off slain enemies.

Naharvali Bugimannoz (Naharvali Archers) Armed with hunting bows, stout cudgels, and small shields, these skilled Naharvali freemen are a useful and flexible force on the flanks of a barbarian horde.

Manirni Bugimannoz (Manirni Archers) The Manirni Bugimannoz use their bows to harass and break up enemy formations, then fight in melee using their small shields and spears. Although these warriors use an early form of longbow, their weapon cannot reach the longer range which later longbows could achieve.

Manirni Moldoi (Manirni Germanic Skirmishers) The young men of the Moldoi units follow war chiefs, proven leaders in battle. They are protected by only a cloak and a wood-plank shield. They are armed with fire-hardened javelins, and a short knife. This type of unit often acts as the home guard or is used to raid the unprotected herds and farmsteads of their enemies.

Hariz Nokmoldoi (Harii Night Stalkers) These Harii do not rely so much on pure terror as their Nokwlentoi brothers, but rather upon cunning to position themselves to hurl their excellent javelins at unsuspecting enemies. They also carry a sharp, short spear, the framea, which they use for close combat.

Helveconez Aswiniai (Helvecones Skirmisher Horsemen) Germanic light cavalry is as famous and skilled as Celtic cavalry. Germanic cavalrymen never fight alone, but with infantry supporting them. The cavalrymen themselves use several javelins and a gaiso for thrusting. Their name recalls the famous horse-riding twins of their ancestors.

Helesiz Ridanz (Helisi Medium Horsemen) This unit is comprised of the sons of the nobility who are either yet to assume authority, or who are junior family members unlikely to inherit the positions held by their fathers. Every man carries a large oval shield fashioned from wooden planks and is armed with a single sharp-edged thrusting spear and a double-edged iron sword.

Marhathegnoz (Eastern Germanic Noble Cavalry) These nobles are close bodyguards and companions of the king. Devoting their lives to war, they are aged, very experienced, and finely educated warriors, using similar tactics and equipment to their noble Celtic counterparts.
