They are friends, brothers, sons, fathers, nephews, and uncles: all bound by the ties of community and kinship. Many wear thick coats or furs for protection, and each man is equipped with a large oval shield made of planked wood. |

Overall, the trends in the development of armaments, reflected by the Toutaginos unit, as with the evolution of the battle tactics in general, are of course based on the progressive proliferation of iron. |

Warowinoi (Eastern Germanic Medium Swordsmen (Early)) This unit is comprised of a small number of well-armed men bound to war and the leaders of great renown that command them. The Warowinoi wear the common garb; leather shoes, belt, a drab wool shirt and trousers. For protection they use a a variety of leather armor and a large leather-covered oval or subrectangular planked-wood shield. A few might sport a thick leather skull cap, whilst most are proud to cover their heads with nothing but too-long wildly unkempt hair. |

Cavalry Units

The cavalrymen themselves use several javelins and a gaiso for thrusting. Their name recalls the famous horse-riding twins of their ancestors. |
