Arverni Batoroi (Gallic Clubmen) The local chieftain selects the strongest and fastest young men from the poorest freemen and arms them with clubs and shields, but no other armament. Although they have little or no training, their simple armament is effective so long as they can flank or ambush an enemy force.

Arverni Gaisatai (Gallic Naked Spearmen) These spearmen believe they are the bravest warriors in their tribe. They are often found bragging of their deeds at local drinking halls, at the table of a powerful chieftain, or listening to the heroic tales told by tribal bards. To demonstrate their bravery, they wear no armor, but charge into battle with their excellent spears, a few javelins, and good shields.

Arverni Acubagaudoi (Gallic Veteran Freemen) These spearmen are recruited from the wealthier and more experienced members of the freemen class. They are equipped with a spear, a javelin, some leather armor, and good shields. While they may not be highly trained, nearly all have previous battle experience, which in many cases is more valuable.

Arverni Kingetoi (Early) (Early Gallic Shieldwall Spearmen) These professional spearmen are the backbone of the Gallic infantry line, recruited from the warrior class. They are well-equipped with a three-meter long spear, a longsword as a melee weapon, a helmet and some body armor, and good shields. They form a Shield Wall formation in combat.

Arverni Bogiokingetoi (Gallic Axemen) These axemen are recruited from the warrior class. They are equipped with sharp axes and good shields. Their primary task is to break a line through a ferocious charge or conduct a quick flank attack. As professional warriors, they know how to employ their sharp axes effectively.

Arverni Cauaros (Gallic Champions) Gallic champions are nobles who have been highly rewarded by their chieftains for their prowess. The flower of the Arverni nobles, they wear brillant and elaborate equipment, showing their gold torques and other jewelry. To demonstrate their bravery, they wear very little armor and should not be used as line infantry.

Arverni Solduroi (Early) (Early Gallic Oathsworn) These noble swordsmen are a powerful melee force for any Gallic warlord powerful enough to gather them to him. They carry good swords, wear finely decorated helmets and good mail armor, and have excellent shields.

Arverni Argoi (Early) (Early Gallic Noble Shieldwall) These noble spearmen are the best available to a Gallic warlord. They have the finest equipment available: three-meter long spears, longswords, highly decorated helmets, and excellent mail armor. They are an elite force and usually fight in a tough Shield Wall formation.

Arverni Acuadrettoi (Gallic Skirmishers) These young freemen are trained as skirmishers. They are lightly equipped with wicker shields or small bucklers and several javelins. They have short swords or daggers, but are not intended to play a decisive role in melee. They are used mainly to provoke and deplete the front ranks of the enemy.

Arverni Saitoroi (Gallic Archers) These archers are light troops of peasant origin, generally foresters and hunters, highly skilled with their bows. Although their value as close-combat warriors is poor, they are intended to support ambushes and skirmishes, and to pepper the enemy at a distance in a pitched battle.

Arverni Klappagnetoi (Gallic Slinger Spearmen) These slingers are recruited from the bravest of the local shepherds and herdsmen. They are capable of throwing their missiles to respectable ranges. Their small shields give them some slight protection from enemy missiles and their spears may make light cavalry think twice before charging, but enemy infantry or determined cavalry will soon put them to flight.

Arverni Gaballokingetoi (Gallic Heavy Skirmishers) These warriors are equipped with very heavy javelins, known as gaballo. They are primarily short-range skirmishers, used to break light troops, but they are experienced and skilled swordsmen as well.

Arverni Gaiseredoi (Gallic Light Cavalry) The farmlands of Gallia and Aquitania are rich in horses and cattle. As a result, even poor warriors can afford to equip themselves with fast horses, javelins, a spear or sword, minimal armor, and a cavalry shield. They are very efficient as a screening and scouting unit, but they will suffer in prolonged melee with unbroken infantry or heavier cavalry.

Arverni Eporedoi (Early) (Gallic Early Medium Cavalry) These warriors ride their own horses into battle and equip themselves with spears, light armor, and a stout cavalry shield. They are not afraid to close with other medium cavalry, enemy missiles, or infantry. Should they encounter steadfast spearmen or heavy cavalry, they will almost certainly need assistance from their own infantry.

They are well-equipped with better spears than their predecessors, swords, mail armor, helmets, and good shields. They have been carefully drilled to form a powerful Shield Wall formation in combat.

Arverni Argoi (Late) (Late Gallic Noble Shieldwall) These noble spearmen are a very-well protected elite force. They usually fight in a Shield Wall formation which takes good advantage of their superb spears. Many late La Tene spearheads are much larger than earlier examples and it can be inferred that these weapons would inflict devastating wounds.
