For centuries the tribes that inhabit these hostile climes have warred amongst the ominous and noble mountains, and this harsh lifestyle has bred a hardy people.

Armenikoi Akontistai (Armenian Javelinmen) Levied from the hamlets and villages across the Armenian steppe, these unwilling warriors go into battle as light skirmishers, armed with javelins and taka shields.

Armenikoi Sphendonetai (Armenian Slingers) In battle, slingers are used as light skirmishers who rush forward against the enemy to pepper them with stones, only to flee when threatened. Slingers come from the shepherd boys of the highlands who use slings to herd sheep and goats. They stand guard in the upland pastures, and if they see an animal straying, they sling a stone in front of it to ward it back to safety.

Armenikoi Hippakontistai (Armenian Skirmisher Cavalry) These light cavalry are well suited to the mountainous home of the Armenians. These are light cavalry, best used for a harassing role. Armed with a bundle of javelins and protected by a Taka shield, these horsemen have no armour, preferring to use speed to protect themselves.

Armenikoi Hippeis (Armenian Cavalry) These lesser nobles are light shock cavalry and not hesitant to close in for melee, able to use their axes with devastating effect against better armored foes. A deadly Tabar axe is used when the clash of battle eventually breaks the spear.

Armenikoi Epilektoi Hippotoxotai (Armenian Armoured Horse Archers) Cataphract Archers are drawn from the elite of the landed nobility. Trained to fight as heavy cavalry. The combination of axes and bow make them a very powerful and versatile force.

Armenikoi Kataphraktoi (Armenian Cataphracts) Armed and armoured to the teeth, Armenian cataphracts provide their commander with a blunt, but very effective tool with which to break the spine of an enemy army. The cost of such an impact is their lack of speed, and the expense of their equipment and training will make replacing any losses rather costly.

Armenikoi Thureophoroi (Armenian Thureos Spears) Thureophoroi are medium infantry. They throw javelins before charging into the enemy with their spears. They are flexible and capable of responding to situations quicker than traditional Hellenistic line infantry. Their name comes from the shield they carry: the thureos.

Armenikoi Phalangitai (Armenian Pikemen) These troops are the result of numerous Armenian reforms, more or less inspired by Greek military traditions. They fight as pikemen, though they are less disciplined and more prone to flee than more reliable Greeks and Macedonians.
